Proposed Oxfordshire Athletics Network

Many of you may be aware that England Athletics are supporting the introduction 50 Athletics Networks across the country to provide local support to athletes, coaches and volunteers.
Recently Buckinghamshire was successful in gaining Athletics Network status and will receive significant funding over the next three years to support them in fully establishing the network and helping the network to become self sustaining.

What Are Athletics Network?
Athletics Networks are clusters of clubs working locally to develop the sport of athletics in that area. Normally comprising an average of five or six clubs in each area, networks will seek to drive up the quality of coaching, links with community groups such as schools, competition in clubs (inter and intra club) and also seek to develop the all round quality of provision within clubs in the network.
With this in mind the Oxfordshire County AA in partnership with England Athletics and Oxfordshire Sport would like to invite you to an opening evening to discuss the potential of an Oxfordshire Athletics Network bid. All Oxfordshire Athletics Clubs are invited to attend this evening to discuss the potential of an Oxfordshire Wide Athletics Network Bid.

Proposed Oxfordshire Athletics Network Open Evening - Wednesday 17th June 2009 – 7.30pm – 9.30pm at Oxford City AC Club Room

Scott Grace of England Athletics will deliver a short presentation explain the main purpose of an Athletics Network, what would be involved, the benefits of a Network approach and share examples of other already established networks. Following on from the presentation Scott will be on hand for a Question and Answer sessions and for a general discussion.

Following this Opening Evening it is proposed that clubs will have two to three weeks to discuss whether they would like to become part of an Oxfordshire Athletics Network. All clubs wishing to become part of the Oxfordshire Network will then be invited to meet and discuss what are the main aims of the Network, who will drive the application forwards and what investments will be involved.
