Request for Volunteers

An action group has been set-up to address the need to compensate for the declining number of officials available to officiate at events around Oxfordshire. The proposal to implement such a system has now advanced to the point where we need to recruit personnel to become members of the chip timing management system.

This does not involve any training with regard to going on any courses. What will be required is a team who are prepared to commit to managing and delivering the chip timing system to each of the events as required on a rota basis. The more people we recruit the less onerous the task for members of the team particularly if we can recruit 8 individuals - this should hopefully allow the members of the team 3 weeks off in every 4 ultimately.

The tasks will involve:

- handing over the timing chips to the event organisers as soon as possible in week before the next scheduled event to allow the time for the event to prepare the race packs to picked up on the day containing the race chips for loan by the unaffiliated runners and runners from clubs outside the county.
- the delivery of the chip timing system on race day.
- setting up the chip timing equipment and pre-race checks prior to the event.
- monitoring the delivery of the timing results to the race organiser's results team.
- the collection of the loaned timing chips from the race organisers at the end of the event.
- packing away of the chip timing equipment at the end of the event.
- passing on the chip timing equipment to the next team on the weekly rota.

This will mean that any volunteers will be expected to be there for the duration of the event. The proposed supplier of the equipment has stated in their presentation to the Oxfordshire Chip Timing Group that their teams arrive of the order of 3 hours before the start of an event to ensure the smooth delivery of their system.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the chip timing management team should contact Will Atkinson, Graham Pickup or myself to find out more information or becoming involved.

Thank you for your attention.

Regards
